If you are having to face life after divorce this book is for you.
This book is about my story and how I survived and thrived through my divorce.
The reason I wrote this book is to share what I have learnt going from total devastation to a happy, fulfilled and successful life.
Your marriage may split up for numerous reasons. No matter what the reason is, facing divorce and life on your own can be scary until you put processes in place to cope.
I was in complete devastation when my husband first left, only just coping day by day. Having to raise my two daughters was what got me up and going every day. At the beginning with maximum effort, until one day I woke up and realised I was doing it all on my own quite successfully and I was happy, not miserable any more.
The first couple of weeks and months, I really was just in survival mode. Doing what needed to be done for myself and my daughters. I pretended I was ok when I was with my daughters. Every facet of life from finances to housework seemed so over whelming.
I could not cope with it all at the beginning, the garden was a mess and the house was only liveable.
I also had my ex-husband pushing me to go back to work and to just get on with it. I did go back to work but on my terms when my daughters were both at school.
When my husband was having his affair I started to go to counselling. This helped me to sort out how long I tolerate his bad behaviour. Then my counsellor helped me through the stages of divorce - blame, grief and anger. So that I could move on with my life not angry and bitter.
This took time as I was very angry and sad that he could leave his family, but I did get through it. I did survive as you will also. I would say that within 4 – 6 months I started to feel human again and then within a year I could actually think about other men.
The first couple of chapters cover surviving the initial split, looking after yourself and your children. Allow yourself to cry and be upset. If you need to get angry and punch a pillow or go for run, then that is what you should do.
When you have any opportunity, make sure you rest and have some fun. Do the things that keep you calm, relaxed and happy - reading, yoga, lunch with girlfriends, watching movies, any activity that makes you feel regenerated to be able to look after the children on your own.
If you are a stay at home Mum as I was, you will need to evaluate what work you can do around being a single mother and still keep your sanity. When you are ready you also need to become independent and step up and do all the 'man chores' as well as the 'women chores'. You will be in total control of your own finances, at first this is scary but when you have learnt different saving tricks as I did, you will be excited at what you can achieve on your own.
The last few chapters are on starting new relationships. How you can learn from the breakdown of your marriage, what you do really want in a relationship.
There are now more blended families than traditional families. There are ways to make this a smooth transition for everyone.
When you read this book, you will discover how I came from an abusive childhood, and then entered an adulterous marriage. My journey then started. I went to counselling, I talked to many friends and associates, and I read lots and lots of books. I gathered as much information as I could from all these sources. As my life has gone by with this knowledge I have accumulated, I am now at peace. I am the happiest I have ever been. I have two successful, happy children. I am in a relationship with a wonderful man. At the age of 46 yrs old, it has been a interesting journey with many ups and downs. But I have done it and so can you. No matter what your childhood was, no matter how bad your marriage was. If I can do it, so can you. Be the best person you can be, have the best of what you want. You deserve it. I knew I did too so that is why I have worked hard to be where I am
