I guess I was anticipating a book referencing one facing their own mortality while fighting cancer for the 2nd time. About one taking notice of how vulnerable we as humans really are. I was expecting the frailties of life explained and the traumatic then peaceful realization that life is precious and we really don't have long to experience it. Instead, I found myself being quite (not always pleasantly) surprised at the amount of detail revealed leading up to the author's repeated illness & his fight to live.It's actually a mini autobiography of significant events that shaped his outlook on family, women, love and life as a whole. It shows no matter how minor an incident may be to one person...it can undoubtedly remain a troublesome memory (thorn in the flesh) to another. There were moments when I felt anger toward some the participants along Sir. Charles journey, still many moments when that same or similar anger was directed at him. During those times I felt he was not taking responsibility for his circumstances and found it convenient to blame those he felt had wronged him.
I commend Sir. Charles for facing his demons and turning his life around. For having the courage to openly admit his past mistakes then encouraging readers along what may be their difficult road. Courage Facing Mortality, gives validity to his determination to now make a difference in other's lives, by looking back....and giving back.
Overall, this was Charles Cary's story to tell. His version of his life, his perception of it and the people that were involved.

Good read
I thought it was a great read. Couldn't stop reading finished in 1 day. Hope to read more of his writing.
This is a story exposing the good, bad, and ugly. Exploring the deepest depths of humanity, yet it gives us the greatest joys to behold. Inspirational - it leaves you with the belief that if you believe, it can happen.
