The last few years have been an attention getter. As I watched mom and dad begin their journey to the promised land, I spent time thinking about our family journey. I thought about what a wonderful legacy mom and dad have left behind. I started writing about mom and dad’s lifelong commitment, my fifty-three year journey with my wife, life lessons, food for thought and even some career talk. This project started in May, 2012. These stories are stories I have lived. They are stories that have shaped who I am. They are stories that have taken me to the top of the highest mountain as well as to the bottom of the deepest valley.

This is a book that will warm your heart, make you smile, laugh and even shed a tear. A book with many short stories of pivotal times in a family's history that left a mark on Mr. Aasen and will most likely will leave a mark on its readers as well. I have read this book twice and many of the stories I read often as reminders in my every day life. This book reminds me that life has many lessons to teach us, we just have to slow down and look for them.
What a great and fun read! Despite the fact i never grew up on a farm in North Dakota, this was an incredible education on life lessons and simple advice for what you want to value in your relationships - family, friends and work. Ron pours his heart and soul into every little story. So many of the stories I can relate to and will not forget those words and phrases! My personal favorites - The Waiting Game; Upstaged; Thoughts for a Granddaughter; RJSL search, and the McDonald's Grandma! i had a ton of pages marked to go back and reread the stories when i need inspiration. Move the buckboard indeed and well done!
Passion, Pride, enthusiasm and appreciation are four words that come to mind as I read "Find A Way To Be Heard." This book is filled with normal every day short stories that give a positive twist on how you can look at life and how things happen at the right moment in time. Growing up in a city filled with charm and tradition and in a family that focused greatly on core values I can relate on so many levels. Everybody has a purpose in life.... Embrace others, Embrace yourself! As I read the book I found myself making mental notes of who I should be thanking for helping me get to where I am today. "Find A Way To Be Heard" = Slow down and enjoy the moment!
Starting with hay rides and ending with iPhones, this book is a series of short stories (2-3 pages) that describe what it’s like to grow up “Midwest” in the past 60 years. Originally written to be a personal legacy for his family, the experiences and values are timeless and universal.
Some stories are poignant. Some are entertaining. Some are motivational. My favorite stories are those that give advice the author has learned from his experience. Ron is first and foremost a coach. I know his advice is golden because he’s coached me through several successful job interviews in the past. Whether it’s lessons learned from his dad, or learned though running a business or raising a family, when Ron says something, it’s worth paying attention. The book is written in a conversational tone that makes it seem like the author is talking to you.
This book may be too eclectic for some, but has many nice moments for any reader. Without a doubt, it’s clear the author has put his whole (very large) heart into this book.
Great life lessons! One could relate to many of the stories; both heartwarming and humorous. An enjoyable, easy read.
Ron's home spun advice and stories make you smile, laugh and nod your head in agreement. I enjoyed this easy read and have already lent it out to friends to read!
